This is in a series of articles about family themed costumes (loads more where this came from) this instalment is all about twins, probably the most hardest to cater for as of course they aren’t as common in the media/tv/movies as other family members but there are still plenty of good options to choose from.
There are so many different choices you can make: will you go as the same character or different, actual twins or non-identical, will you even go as twins at all or go for a pair of costumes that represent friends instead (of course you are still friends with your twin regardless of what you wear). It might be a little easier to dress up younger twins In matching outfits but as they get older they’ll likely want to be unique so keep that in mind.
Zac and Cody
If you are a twin you knew I was going to put this up here right? If not then the suite life of Zac and Cody was one of the most popular shows on Disney and then they created a spin off sort of sequel series called The Suite Life on Deck and both were based on twins! Their outfits are pretty simple to recreate using standard clothes and then a mop style blond wig (not a detail to forget).
The Cramp Twins
These brothers are not so identical and I mentioned them in the other article, perfect for non-identical twins with completely different personalities or even brothers. This type of twin is often underrepresented in shows in place of fully identical ones. The costumes might be a little difficult but generally all you will need if standard clothes with certain patterns on them no need for time consuming sewing or stitching to create an intricate outfit and for Wayne a shaved head is necessary or a bald cap.
Thing 1 and Thing 2
Have you watched the Cat in the Hat movie? These two ‘things’ were released from a box that the cat had and showed to the children, they wear colourful red jumpsuits with their numbers printed on them to make sure people know who’s who, their most unique aspect is their fuzzy blue afros. What is great about this is it can be easily made with a red onesie of some sort and some blue hair spray, two very affordable items (the onesie you might already own so that’s basically free) that can create a massive statement on Halloween.
Woody and Jessie
Don’t think I forgot twins who are of different genders; these are even harder to cater for as very few pairs are different gender twins in media so therefore you’ll have to settle for characters that are just good friends or different gendered siblings. Woody and Jessie are probably the most popular pairing in the Toy Story series and for good reason and their costumes represent a very popular theme of cowboys from the Wild West so you don’t even need an official costume.
Bam Bam and Pebbles
I am a huge fan of the Flintstones and this pairing is extremely popular for Halloween even though Bam Bam and Pebbles are not related they are often seen in the cartoons playing together so it only makes sense to pair these two up. They put a nice twist on the typical caveman theme which I like and the costumes are simple yet effective.
Don’t think that is all there is there are various other options including:
- Spiderman and Spiderwoman
- Peter Pan and Tinkerbell
- Fiona and Shrek
- Tom and Jerry
- Ratchet and Clank
- Dora the Explorer and her cousin Diego
